Icebug Offers Challenge And Co-operation
At the beginning of 2019, the Swedish company Icebug became the first climate positive outdoor footwear brand. Icebug has joined the UN’s Climate Neutral Now Pledge, meaning the company is committed to reduce CO2 emissions as much as possible and then offsetting emissions and over-compensating with 30%.

Zamberlan Extends Women’s Boot Range
For the first time in its 90 year history, Zamberlan’s 2019 launch of its Epic Women range saw footwear designed, conceived, tested and produced for the needs of the female fit, weight, energy, performance and aesthetics. The company stated, ‘It has been developed to honour the talent and legacy of courageous women who have changed the history of mountaineering.’

prAna Expands Fair Trade Programme
In 2010, prAna was the first North American apparel company to partner up with Fair Trade USA, a non-profit organisation that certifies goods manufactured in developing countries meeting specific standards in terms of wages, individual or community well-being and environmental impact. It then produced the Soul Tee by Fair Trade standards. Today, the brand has converted many of its factories to Fair Trade Certified.

UK Govt Wants Kids To Head Outdoors
Last month, UK Education Secretary Damian Hinds launched #SummerOutdoors which will suggest free or low-cost options to keep children entertained and spark interest in character-building activities during the summer break. Children and families will be encouraged to explore the outdoors during the summer holidays, as a series of fun tips and events for kids happening across the country will be signposted each week.

Polygiene Wins Outdoor Award
After dedicated outdoor testing and lively discussions in a remote mountain area of Austria, an international jury came up with the winners of Scandinavian Outdoor Awards for next year’s spring/summer season. Announced at OutDoor by ISPO, the jury stated that the Sustainability Award winner Polygiene/Odor Crunch, ‘can be a game changer, not only for the outdoor business but for the entire apparel industry.’

Salewa To Stop Plastic Packaging
Mountain sports equipment manufacturer Salewa is extending its commitment to sustainability by doing away with plastic packaging. Environmental protection is an integral part of the overall sustainability strategy of its parent company, the Oberalp Group. From July 2019, the company has been shipping 60% of products purchased via its ecommerce site in a speciallymade Salewa Grassbox.
