How About An ‘Ultimate’ Self-Guided Bike Tour Across Europe?

If you love cycling and want to explore Europe on two wheels but don’t fancy the independence of cycle-camping or finding your own way, sorting accommodation and pedaling with your luggage, then Freewheel Holidays, a division of Sports Tours International, has attractive options. The UK-based company specialises in 4, 6, 7 and 10-night self-guided cycling holidays to European destinations including Austria, France, Holland, Denmark, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Germany and Portugal.

However, it is now offering travellers the fun and freedom of its new ‘Ultimate Cycling Holiday’ of 72, 74 or 83 days, each made up from several linking itineraries, stating that, ‘it might just be the greatest cycling holiday of all time.’ Freewheel has combined as many as ten tours in a row to explore Europe’s back roads, small towns, historical sites, culinary gems and urban highlights. Product Manager Steven Rittey was inspired by the BBC series ‘Race across the World’ when creating the possibility for these epic bike rides around Europe.

He said, “Each of the three adventures is made up of several individual, stand-alone cycle tours that Freewheel Holidays sells on its website. Any of the three or all three together constitute the ultimate European cycling holiday for someone looking to live the dream without all of the planning. It might just be the greatest cycling holiday of all time. If you were to plan this tour independently, then you would spend months and months carrying out research into the journey and planning out the best possible cycle route.”

All of the advance route planning and hotel accommodations are secured before cyclists embark on any of the three routes. Each cycling stage includes daily luggage transfers, hybrid bike hire, route notes and support as well as pre-booked hotels and directions.

The three routes are:

  • Portugal to Poland – per person double rate from £7,131 for 72 days covering 2674km;
  • Norway to Italy – per person double rate from £9,100 for 74 days covering 3218km;
  • Estonia to Santiago de Compostela in Spain – per person double rate from £8,130 for 83 days covering 2890km.
