Vaude’s Sustainable Lifestyle Clothing

Fair fashion is a phrase that has struck a chord with conscientious consumers; environmentally friendly, socially fair production is in high demand.

A natural look and comfortable functionality are two central features in Vaude’s Urban Life Collection. A third component is a high proportion of natural and recycled materials. Starting in the Summer Season 2020, the strict Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) for natural materials will also be embedded at Vaude.

It guarantees environmentally-minded shoppers an ecologically clean supply chain from plant cultivation to the finished garment. GOTS prohibits the use of hazardous chemicals throughout the manufacturing chain and also ensures compliance with social criteria, e.g. no child labour.

40% of the products in Vaude’s Urban Life Summer Collection 2020 are GOTS-certified. This means the use of at least 70% organic cotton (dangerous pesticides are prohibited), sometimes blended with recycled polyester. The functional blend of natural and synthetic fibres offers advantages in terms of comfort, product care and drying properties.

For the first time, Vaude is using a new environmentally-friendly dye process called Natural Dye by Archroma Earth Colours. This process makes use of vegetable residuals from the food industry, such as beetroot and bitter orange.

These renewable raw materials are locally available and conserve crude oil compared to conventional dyeing methods using with petrochemical dyes.  The earthy tones complement their casual style. Fine details made from cork (cord stoppers) and patches underline the natural character.

Further, a large part of the collection is produced in Europe and all styles bear the Vaude Green Shape label which stands for eco-friendly, functional products made from sustainable materials.

The Redmont Jacket made from densely woven durable cotton is a great summer choice for a modern lifestyle. The sturdy fabric, the dark natural colours and a loose fit go well with jeans and sneakers.

The loose-fitting Redmont Pullover with a high collar and raglan sleeves is a trend-setting companion for mild summer evenings. It scores with a functional mix of GOTS-certified cotton and 30 % recycled polyester.

The Redmont 1L Jacket was chosen as a Gold Winner for sustainability at the Outstanding Outdoor Awards at OutDoor by ISPO 2019.
