It is almost a year since we lost Sophie, our beautiful daughter, to suicide. As you can imagine it is a particularly challenging time for us all.
After Sophie’s death we decided that we had to find something positive to pull from the devastating situation we found ourselves in; the first step along the way was an introduction to PAPYRUS, the national charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide.
It is a great organisation staffed with fantastic people who work hard to help young people with suicide awareness & prevention.
Over the year, we have raised tens of thousands of pounds for PAPYRUS and, more importantly we have introduced the organisation to 1000’s of people, many of whom have subsequently reached out to them for help.
Earlier this year George, Sophie’s mum, walked the Way of St James from St Jean Piet de Port in the French Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain. Along the way she took loads of photos – she was particularly drawn to doors she saw.
On her return friends suggested she do something with these images of doors. Before she knew it, she had committed to create a calendar! George funded the design & production of a wall & desk calendar along with a poster – they are all beautiful!

Within a month of going on sale she had covered her costs, so all subsequent cash raised is going to support PAPYRUS.
As well as going to schools, colleges and places of work to talk to young people, PAPYRUS runs HELPLINEUK (0800 068 4141) – a call-line for people in crisis or those who are looking for help for friends or family. It costs the charity about £5 to service every one of these calls. Buying a calendar or poster could help PAPYRUS save two young lives. You can buy George’s calendars here.
Thanks for taking the time to read through this.
